A Story of Ablation

To Go To Ablation
A Story of Ablation from the internet....
From Port Henry, New York, USA
Most of you know that I have been battling kidney cancer for several years..... And things have come along way.... They've come up with new ways to treat it ...
My first Operation. was 5 years ago... I had a 12 cm tumor that has grown 3 fingers that extended into the kidney ... and normally they would have removed the whole kidney. but I was born with only one... So.. an operation was done to remove the cancer and spare as much kidney as possible ... Honestly!. My doctor after 8 1/2 hours of surgery where my kidney was removed to a dish of ice .( They jokingly called it a slushy).. I was put on Life support ....and the cancer was removed along with a margin of free tissue and then (the Kidney was... put back in my body....
My Dr. said he knew he had some one there helping him... For I was all set for dialysis. And I didn't need it..
3 years went by and I was at that cross road again... But ... they had recently started a procedure call Ablation... Where They run a long needle like thing through the back to the kidney and it has a electrode that once it is in the tumor , is activated and the tumor is destroyed by burning it... and yes a margin of cancer free is also burned...
That one was the size of a large grape... and was located inside the kidney.....Not as radical as a nephrectomy . but a bit painful none the less.
Well... today I had that procedure again .. for yet another cancerous tumor this one was the size of large pea... But on the outside of the kidney... Still needing to take a margin in hopes that they get it all... There is a larger nerve that is close to the kidney..and although they didn't hit it ., it was non the less irritated. and caused sever pain from the Kidney all the way up my right arm, shoulder , and neck. ..
I wrote this because it's something that I'm dealing with .. and because I wanted you to know that Kidney cancer is a cancer that tends to come back.... Generally it shows up in lungs, Liver , brain, bone . etc. But , it is still kidney cancer cells where ever it comes back to... Mine for some reason... has come back each time in the kidney... And So far.. they have been able to give me some more time...
The good news is.. that the medical field has learned a lot ... and hopefully for those who wind up walking a mile in my shoes... they will not only locate it a whole lot faster for you... but figure out how cure it... Just not in my life time...
Life is a learning experience .. And I have learned a good many things on my journey.. And the most important thing I've learned is that Friends... are what makes life worth living.. And they help make the bumps in the road live-able...
Now: it's time to take my meds and go get some much need rest... May you all have peaceful dreams... And Thank you.. for being here for me ... you do not know how much that means to me,
Hugs, Inez
